No Dental Insurance? See a Dentist Without It — and Pay Less Than You Think

Nearly one in three adults in the Tampa Bay area has no dental coverage — and many who do still pay most costs out of pocket. At MyDental, self-pay patients aren’t second-class. You get the same complete care, an exact fee quote before any treatment begins, and pricing that’s often competitive with what insured patients pay after premiums and deductibles.

How Self Pay Works at MyDental

  • Exam first, numbers second. Dr. Shurova examines you and explains exactly what you need — and what can wait.
  • A written quote before treatment. No surprise bills. You approve every fee up front.
  • You choose the pace. Phased treatment plans let you handle what’s urgent now and schedule the rest on your budget.

Ways to Save Without Insurance

  • Self-pay discount — reduced fees when you pay at the time of service.
  • MyDental Membership Plan — one flat annual fee covers your cleanings, exams, and x-rays, plus discounts on treatment. Often cheaper than a year of insurance premiums.
  • Flexible financing through Cherry — split larger treatments into monthly payments. Apply in 60 seconds at pay.withcherry.com/mydental-fl — soft credit check, no impact on your score to see your options.
  • Other financing companies — CareCredit, etc

Help With Prescription Costs

Being self-pay should never mean overpaying. When we prescribe medication – like antibiotics or pain relief after a procedure – we help you find the lowest available price, including through free discount programs such as GoodRx. It is one more way we keep your care honest, transparent, and affordable.

Have Insurance? We Still Make It Easy.

MyDental is out-of-network by design — it means Dr. Shurova answers to you, not an insurance company’s treatment restrictions. If you have a PPO plan, we file claims on your behalf. You pay the difference between our fees and your insurance payment. Insured patients enjoy self-pay discounts after reaching their annual maximum.

Why we don't run "$59 new patient special" offers

You’ve seen the ads — a deeply discounted exam to get you in the door. Here’s the part that isn’t advertised: that discount is a marketing cost, and the office recovers it somewhere. Usually in the treatment plan that follows.

We price it the other way around. Your comprehensive exam is billed at its honest cost — it includes complete x-rays, TMJ and orthodontic evaluation, and Dr. Shurova’s full diagnosis — and every fee after it stands on its own, with nothing to recover. No inflated treatment plans, no unnecessary consultations, no referral carousel.

That’s why patients who compare their total cost often find that honest pricing from an accurate diagnosis costs less than a discounted door price followed by an inflated treatment plan. One number gets you in the door somewhere. The number that matters is what you’ve spent when your mouth is healthy.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “Before coming here, I visited several different dentists. One referred me to another specialist, who then sent me to someone else for another consultation… My experience here was completely different. The team was professional, honest, and efficient. They removed my tooth in about 20 minutes with no pain, no unnecessary consultations, and no hidden charges. The total cost was about three times lower than what I had been quoted elsewhere.”

* How treatment — and pricing — is determined

These fees are starting points for common procedures so you can plan with real numbers. But which procedure you need isn’t chosen from this list — it’s determined by clinical diagnosis of the dentist based on your exam and x-rays. A few examples of what that means in practice:

  • Cleanings: A routine cleaning is for healthy gums with light buildup. If tartar sits below the gumline or gum disease is present, a routine cleaning can’t treat it — the deep cleaning your diagnosis requires will be quoted before we begin. This isn’t an upsell — it’s the difference between polishing teeth and treating an infection.
  • Fillings: A filling only works when enough healthy tooth remains to hold it. When decay or fracture has gone too far, a filling will crack or fall out — the tooth needs a crown, and sometimes a root canal first. Placing a filling anyway means paying twice and losing more tooth in between.
  • Extractions: Occasionally a tooth is too damaged to save at all. Recommending an extraction is never our preference — it’s the honest answer when restoring the tooth would fail.
  • Crowns: Often a crown requires preparatory work first for the crown to succeed. If decay reaches the nerve, a root canal comes first. If too little tooth remains above the gumline, a build-up (core filling) or crown lengthening creates the foundation the crown attaches to. Skipping these steps means a crown that comes loose or fails — each step is only recommended when your x-rays show it’s needed, and each is quoted in writing before we begin.

Dr. Shurova will not perform a treatment that her diagnosis shows will fail — that’s the “do no harm” standard, and it protects both your health and your money. Elective cosmetic treatments (whitening, veneers, Botox) are the exception: those are entirely your choice. Either way, you’ll always get the full picture, the reasoning, and an exact written quote before anything begins — and nothing proceeds without your approval.

FAQ

  • Do you charge more if I don’t have insurance? No — self-pay patients receive discounted fees, not inflated ones.
  • Does the new patient exam include TMJ and orthodontic evaluation?
Yes. Your comprehensive exam includes evaluation of your jaw joints and bite (TMJ screening) and an orthodontic assessment — not just your teeth and gums. If Dr. Shurova finds signs of TMJ dysfunction or alignment issues worth addressing, she’ll explain what she sees and your options. There’s no separate fee for these evaluations; they’re part of understanding your complete oral health.
  • Why isn’t your exam discounted like other offices advertise?
Because we don’t need to earn the discount back later. A promotional exam price is a marketing expense the office recovers in your treatment plan. Our exam is priced at what it actually is — complete x-rays, TMJ and orthodontic evaluation, and a full diagnosis — and every fee after it stands on its own. Compare total costs, not door prices.
  • Can I get just a cleaning without committing to more treatment? Yes. You’ll always know your options; nothing is required.
  • What if I need a lot of work but can’t pay at once? We build phased plans and offer monthly financing.
  • Do you offer payment plans in-house? Financing runs through 3d party providers (i.e. Cherry, Care Credit) with instant approval decisions.
  • Is the membership plan insurance? No — it’s a direct plan with our office. No claims, no denials, no waiting periods.
  • Can I just get a filling instead of a crown?
Only if a filling will actually hold. Fillings need solid tooth structure around them; when a tooth is mostly decay or fracture, a filling is a temporary patch that fails — often taking more of the tooth with it. Recommending the crown (or root canal, or extraction) isn’t about the bigger fee. It’s about not charging you for something we know won’t last. If you’d like, Dr. Shurova will show you the x-ray and exactly why.
  • Why is my crown quote higher than the price on this page?
The listed fee is for the crown procedure itself. Some teeth need groundwork first — a root canal if the nerve is involved, a build-up if not enough tooth remains to grip the crown, or crown lengthening if the tooth sits too low at the gumline. Think of the crown as a roof: it only holds if the walls under it are sound. Your exam determines which steps apply to you, and every one appears on your written quote before treatment starts — no additions mid-treatment.
